“When we take all our information from the mainstream media, we live by it. If we constantly give our attention to a world in which we are powerless to change anything, that becomes our reality.”
—Indra Adnan, Politics of Waking Up
It was created as a response to the effect of existing media’s role in shrinking our capacity to imagine a better future at a critical time when we need to be able to imagine, reach for and design something better together from where we are.
After many explorations with neighbours over the past couple of years, from broad ‘what ifs’ for our neighbourhoods that push our imaginations into the future, to exchanging invitations to trade skills or get involved with things happening locally now, it hopes to be a creative platform to imagine, craft and communicate good news stories in a non-traditional newspaper, co-created by and for the neighbourhood.
Everyone Has Something To Share & Something To Learn
How can exchanging skills and knowledge of many forms make our neighbourhoods resilient to the challenges and opportunities we will face together, now and in the future?
Taking the form of a weekly newsletter, this current season of Good News of B16 explores stories of the neighbourhood as a site of learning exchange, discovering people and ecosystems that will help us to meet the challenges and opportunities we will face together, now and in the future. Our hope is that this will provide a rich resource that supports local action, unlocks spaces in the neighbourhood and beyond.
Issue #2 is currently being compiled, with a new feature to be added regularly throughout Autumn / Winter 2023. Printed copies of each feature can be picked up from the following locations in the neighbourhood, as well as at many events we are hosting near and far.
