Throughout the first year of co-creating the Neighbourhood Doughnut and beyond together we have been talking, engaging and listening to children in the neighbourhood. Books have played an integral role with children in sharing ideas and examples of great work to help young readers imagine their places and spaces.
To continue these conversations we have invited writer Hiba Noor Khan to share her book One Home.
“Our planet functions in perfect balance, and we are all joined to each other through it. There are poems in the trees, secrets in the sea and songs in the breezes, but over the centuries most humans have forgotten how to hear them.” - Hiba Noor Khan
Every person has a right to live on our planet, a right to call somewhere on this earth their home. Across the globe climate change is threatening that right, but we can still save this wonderful planet that is our home. Meet the incredible eighteen young activists who are already taking action against climate change, as they see its effects already changing the environments in which they live – travel to a huge range of locations, explore different and often endangered habitats, experience new cultures and traditions and find out how you can join the fight.
This beautifully told global collection of real-life stories includes a toolkit for young nature-lovers, with simple, empowering activities that we can all do from home to help protect our environment and our neighbourhood. Suitable for children 6+.
One Home features many themes that we have been continually exploring in the neighbourhood, particularly with children during the After School Clubs at Barford Primary and St Peter’s & St John’s as well the Holiday Clubs and Room to Grow sessions where composting, soil, worms, growing, climate change, recycling, protecting fresh water have been topics of discussion, creativity and shared learning.
